Platform Newsletter - September 2025

Published September 11, 2025

There’s something about September that always feels like a fresh start. Maybe it’s the change in the air, maybe it’s the “back-to-school” energy, or maybe it’s just that natural pull to begin again. Whatever the reason, it’s a perfect moment to pause, reset, and step into new ideas with renewed energy.

That’s exactly what we want this newsletter to be for you: a small reminder that every new project, every experiment, and every bit of curiosity can lead to something inspiring. This month, we’ve got exciting updates, helpful resources, and creative projects to explore—because building with Slack is always better when we do it together.

From Slack to Salesforce: Order confirmations made simple

What if delivery workers could confirm orders right from Slack on their phone? In this workshop, you’ll build a prototype app that does just that—using Salesforce and Bolt for Python.

Bringing AI into the flow of work

Forget switching tabs—your next AI assistant can live where your team already works. Explore how to integrate LLMs into Slack with events, shortcuts, commands, and modals.

Pancake for your webhook payloads

Nested JSON giving you empty variable previews? Learn how to flatten payloads with Pancake Studio so Workflow Builder can access every piece of your data.

Level up with the new Lists API 🚀

You’ve been asking for it, and it’s finally here: the Slack Lists API methods are now publicly available!

With these new endpoints, you can start building powerful apps that organize, track, and collaborate on work — all within Slack.

Here’s what you can do:

✅ Create and update lists (slackLists.create, slackLists.update)
📥 Manage list items (slackLists.items.create, slackLists.items.update, slackLists.items.delete)
🗂️ Bulk actions and downloads (slackLists.items.deleteMultiple, slackLists.download.start, slackLists.download.get)
🔑 Control access (slackLists.access.set, slackLists.access.delete)
🔍 Fetch and display list data (slackLists.items.list, slackLists.items.info)

Freshly Brewed ☕

  • NEW! API docs are out of beta—now GA

This new site replaces api.slack.com/docs and is designed with you in mind: faster to search, easier to navigate, and (dare we say) more enjoyable to use. Whether you’re building your first Slack app or shipping advanced integrations, everything you need is now in one streamlined place.

Check out the new docs today! The wait is over! Our Documentation Engineering team has been hard at work creating a brand-new developer documentation experience, and we’re excited to share that docs.slack.dev is now officially live.

  • A simpler Slack navigation is here
We’re making it easier to find what you need in Slack with a cleaner, more organized desktop navigation. Starting today, you’ll notice fewer tabs—streamlined into views that make more sense:

Files tab: Files, Canvas, and Lists now live together in one place.
Directories in Home: People, Channels, and External tabs are now neatly grouped.
Tools tab: The Automations tab got an upgrade! It now includes Templates and more.

These updates are rolling out gradually, so keep an eye out for the new setup in your workspace.

We’re always blown away by what our community creates—and we want to highlight you next! Whether it’s a handy tool, a step-by-step guide, or an insightful article, if you’re proud of it, we want to hear all about it.
